Shrigley Hall Wedding Photography // Jess and Chris

Shrigley Hall Wedding Photography

Couple kiss at sunset at Shrigley HallI recently had the pleasure of capturing the Shrigley Hall Wedding Photography for my good friends Chris and Jess. Having known Chris since school to have the honour of capturing his wedding to Jess was just amazing. When Chris first asked he said he wanted someone who could keep him at ease when emotions were high but could also have a laugh during portraits so I hope I managed to do this during the day.

Back Home For Bridal Prep

The morning of the wedding I arrived at Jess’ parents house which was lovely. With Jess going to her childhood home for one last night and morning before getting married the house was filled with laughter and lovely memories as Jess and her bridesmaids were pampered and had hair and make up by the wonderful Sarah Meredith. With Mum heading off to the salon and Dad trying to find something to keep him occupied as his house was taken over, the girls got ready.

The wedding car arrived and the time came to head to Shrigley hall. For those reading this and who know Jess it will come to much a surprise that Jess was actually early! So early in fact that the car was sent away for a little drive on no less than two occasions. With Chris waiting nervously in the ceremony room guests filled their seats and finally Jess walked down the isle.

Portraits and Shrigley Hall Wedding Photography

After a very moving an emotional ceremony we spent the day celebrating and finding amazing little spots all around Shrigley Hall for portraits. Working alongside Matt Grainger on video duty and Olivia my second shooter we were able to explore and create some amazing and beautiful portraits. Utilising different areas at different times of day we were able to keep Jess and Chris relaxed while creating a variety of different shots for the bride and groom. We also got to ride in the golf buggy down to the fountains at the entrance!

Please check out the photos of the day below and Congratulations again to the new Mr and Mrs Stubbs!

King Street Townhouse Wedding // Lu and Chris

King Street Townhouse Wedding // Lu and Chris

married couple stand on the roof of king street townhouseWhen I first met up with Lu and Chris and they told me their story I totally fell in love with these guys as a couple. They told me about the cool ideas for the wedding, the Game of Thrones theme and then the venue! It has long been on my list to photograph an awesome King Street Townhouse Wedding and then up pop Lu and Chris.

Tattoos and Total Geek Outs

So Lu and Chris won’t mind me telling you that they are self confessed geeks but I love that. When we met we chatted all about Star Wars, Tattoos, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and most importantly, the show that forged the relationship between this stunning couple, Game Of Thrones! After meeting at a friends house party back in 2008 neither of the pair thought anything of it but 5 years later meeting again via facebook and chatting over a mutual love of Game Of Thrones is what kickstarted the relationship so it would have been rude not to have this theme running through the wedding which can be seen from details down to table names and bottles of “wildfire” as favours.

When it came to tattoos Lu was very much all about having these on display on the wedding day and you can see how incredibly stunning she looked in her dress. Chris however was in the process of having laser removal for a tattoo on his hand which I was told was a Vegas Special. From what I am told Lu and Chris and a few friends all got matching tattoos out in Vegas and even under the advice of his wife to be to not tattoo his hand he went for it!

Portraits and Party Time for a King Street Townhouse Wedding

From arriving in the morning and spending time with Lu and her girls I knew that the cold January wouldn’t be an issue for getting these guys outside for some cool (in every sense of the word) portraits. We managed to get out on the roof which gives perfect views across Manchester City Centre, one of the main reasons to have a King Street Townhouse Wedding. Later in the evening before the party really started we managed to head out into the city for more shots and the cold didn’t stop these two.

The evening party was brought in by good friend and awesome DJ Tom Hardwick. With Lu and Chris being self confessed metal heads (even Chris’ mum was asking for slayer) Tom was the clear choice. Not only does he know his stuff when it comes to keeping a dance floor packed when you ask him to spin headbanging metal tunes it will be one hell of a party, and from what I hear later in the night Lu slipped on her dress and while trying to save her prosecco managed to cut her hand creating what she affectionately calls her wedding battle scar. Total Rock and Roll wedding story right there!

Battle scars aside Lu and Chris were the perfect couple to work with in the cold January and I am sure they as much fun as I did while shooting this awesome King Street Townhouse Wedding. Congratulations guys and all the best!

The Oak Tree Of Peover Wedding // Rae and Adam

The Oak Tree Of Peover Wedding // Rae and Adam

Bride and Groom share a moment in front of The Oak Tree Of PeoverWhen I first met Adam and Rae I knew instantly that this would be a super cool, laid back and fun Oak Tree Of Peover wedding and it didn’t disappoint. Setting the date for Friday the 13th for most couples would be a complete no go but for Rae and Adam it just added to the unconventional elements of the wedding.

As mentioned, yes, these guys tied the knot on Friday the 13th. So hoping nothing could go wrong the day started with the bride and her bridesmaids arriving on a mini bus to get ready at The Oak Tree Of Peover. Upon arrival all was well up until the bride received a text message showing how one of the mini bus doors had fallen off. Yep IT FELL OFF! This was just the start of things that could potentially cause a problem as Rae informed me her dad was in hospital with broken ribs and a possible collapsed lung and may not make it to the Oak Tree Of Peover wedding!

Friday the 13th and The Suspense

Ceremony time rolls around and Adam nervously awaits his school sweetheart underneath an archway he hand made from copper pipe which was just one part of the details that the couple had made themselves. It wasn’t always that way though as we were all reliably informed during the speeches. Apparently Adam went to prom with another girl but left with Rae so it all worked out in the end.

Back to Adam waiting patiently and still unsure if Rae’s dad would be making it to the wedding and with 3 minutes to the ceremony he strolls in to the bridal prep room to give his daughter the biggest hug and to wish her luck before he takes his seat. Thats right he took his seat as another part of this non traditional day was that Adam was to meet his bride at the top of the isle and they would walk each other down to be married which I thought was such a beautiful touch.

Thunder Storms and Sunny Spells

The forecast had been threatening The Oak Tree of Peover wedding all day with rain and after the week we had with incredible weather it seemed nothing could put a dampener on the day. With glorious sunshine throughout the ceremony and drinks reception giving us plenty of time to explore the beautiful surroundings that The Oak Tree Of Peover has. The weather didn’t last but if there was a perfect time for rain it hit during the meal then cleared out for the speeches and the reception meaning everyone could enjoy the grounds again.

With the cake cutting and first dance appearing out of nowhere Chicks with Decks brought The Oakree of Peover Wedding fully into the party spirit keeping the dancefloor occupied well into the night.

Pryors Hayes Wedding // Becca and Jonny

Pryors Hayes Wedding // Becca and Jonny

What better way to spend new years eve than getting married! That is exactly what Becca and Jonny thought when they booked me to shoot their Pryors Hayes wedding on New Years Eve 2017. Personally I’m not a fan of going out on New Year, the inflated bar prices, double fare on your taxis so when you get asked to photograph a wedding and come along to an awesome party you just cant turn that down at all!

Arriving at Becca’s parents home in the morning for bridal prep I was given a warm welcome and it was clear Becca and the girls were extremely excited for the day ahead. It was a great pleasure to be able to work alongside Elle Knowles MUA and Ann Hutchinson Hair Stylist for the first time. After getting ready and exchanging gifts it was on to the church where I caught up with Becca’s groom Jonny. Nerves were creeping in a little but with the aid of his best men Jonny was kept calm for the beautiful service.

Rose Gold and Vintage Transport

The colour scheme for the big day was rose gold. This was something Becca was adamant on from day one so it seems. From bridesmaids dresses to the cuff links she bought for her dad to the venue decoration everything had a touch of rose gold to it and the added sparkle gave it that New Years Eve party vibe!

So its new year, you’re getting married and you and all your guests need to get from the church to the reception venue. No one wants to drive, it’s a party. What do you do? Hire two amazing vintage red busses from The Big Red Bus Co which have free flowing prosecco and beer! Keep the party going while on the road and I got invited along to document the journey which was AWESOME as I am a bit of a sucker for retro rides and vintage transport.

Pryors Hayes Wedding

Pryors Hayes is a bespoke wedding venue set in the heart of Cheshire in 120 acres of beautiful scenery. Recently refurbished styling itself with rustic oak beams and Edison bulbs the venue has an instant impact mixing its unique and rustic vibe with a beautiful elegance. Unfortunately due to the weather and the fast fading light we didn’t have chance to explore far but we did check out the private garden and when I return in 2018 I will be making the most of the golf buggies and the surrounding scenery.

Check out below the pictures from Becca and Jonny’s big day. Congratulations guys and thanks for having me along for an unforgettable NYE!

Didsbury Wedding Photography // Craig and Jess

Didsbury Wedding Photography // Craig and Jess

Married couple have their first kiss in the blue room at Didsbury HouseEveryone loves Didsbury and a Didsbury Wedding right? I can tell you one thing you probably don’t love Didsbury nearly half as much as Jess and Craig. I think that the one thing I took away from this Didsbury wedding was that everything felt really local- the wedding party got ready at 11 Didsbury Park and the ceremony was held at Didsbury House hotel. The dress was from The White Closet on Burton Road. The cakes, and there was a lot of them, were from The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon, another Didsbury hot-spot. Everything about it felt local and I really loved that.

Didsbury Wedding Photography

I got a few shots of both the bride and the groom getting ready in the morning which was really nice. Jess had three bridesmaids and you can tell from my photographs that there was a lot of love in the room. The bridesmaids were dressed in mint green Grecian numbers which looked stunning against the bride’s white dress and the pink/purples tones in the flowers. Everything had the fresh pastel colours of spring, and it was like a breath of fresh air.

I must say the vibe with the groom was much more relaxed with his two best men. Flowers were a big part of this wedding, they were done by Sian at The Flower Lounge. She really outdid herself. They felt really wild and natural by the use of thistles, roses and freesias. They looked stunning in the bride’s hair and dotted around the room where they would be married. I love working with the guys at The Flower Lounge, make sure to check them out if you are looking for a florist!

House Party Vibes at  Eleven Didsbury Park

The wedding party walked over to the venue which was a nice touch while I took some snaps of the guests arriving. They had organised the Northern String Quartet to play for the arrival and throughout the day. This felt lovely and traditional, and mixed up in the gorgeous setting of the Georgian featured Blue Room at Didsbury House Hotel it gave the whole experience a vintage, bygone feel. The ceremony kicked off at 2pm and there were certainly a few tears. It was just beautiful, and a pleasure for me to shoot. They had a relaxed hand-fasting ceremony where the two mothers tied the ribbon around the happy couple. Fun Fact: This is where ‘tying the knot’ comes from- it is a Celtic tradition where families would literally tie two clans together through marriage.

I really enjoyed working alongside Michael from Satin Pictures who was on videography too. We worked late into the evening as things move on to the meal and finally the party afterwards which had a very relaxed, almost house party type feel. The venue isn’t massive, so everything felt really intimate and close. This one was most certainly up there with one of my favourites, so thank you to Jess and Craig for letting me be part of you Didsbury House Wedding.

Didsbury House Wedding Photography // Matt and Angela

Didsbury House Wedding Photography // Matt and Angela

Wedding portraits at Eleven Didsbury ParkNo rest for the wicked. The second job on the trot for me and I was back to my native Manchester for Matt and Angela’s wedding on the Saturday of Easter weekend for a Didsbury House Wedding. This coy couple wanted a small intimate affair with family and close friends, minimal fuss and that was precisely the feeling of the day.

The wedding took place at The Didsbury House Hotel, a luxury Victorian villa situated in a fashionable suburb of South Manchester. Due to its small size, the venue is often taken over by the entire wedding party, which gives a comfortable, informal, family feel to the whole event. The old wedding tradition of ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ is carried throughout the premises. The exterior is traditionally Victorian with a newly refurbished interior that was theirs to borrow for the day. Finally, the reception took place in the spectacular Blue Room- competing this old English proverb so perfectly.

A Small Intimate Wedding

The Bride & Groom stayed the night before the big day at the hotel, which I can only imagine was filled with a restless night of excited sleep.  The big day began with getting ready over a few glasses of Dutch courage, a practice used by both Matt & Angela, and a little pampering. The bride and bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done by local artist Rebecca Anderton while I took some snaps.  The stunning Monsoon wedding dress hung up on the shutters as the morning light peaked through the cracks, while the groom and his men got dressed in another room. Flowers from The Flower Lounge were delivered, and they took everyone’s breath away (including mine!) The palate of colours in the bouquet was stunning and complimented the dark blue tone which adorned the bridesmaids. All the flora seemed wild, rustic and natural as if it had been plucked from the grounds that very morning and tied up in a bow. Sian is an absolute master of her craft and comes highly recommended.

Good things came in small packages at this wedding with only 50 guests at the ceremony and a handful more in the evening. The intimate Blue Room of was filled with the cheerful faces of Matt & Angela’s loved ones. After it was all official, the party moved into the Gold Lounge for the reception which concluded with the music from Jack Rabbits and a little dancing.

Didsbury House Wedding

I enjoyed taking the photographs of the family in the beautiful grounds under the shade of leafy trees.  The stripped –back, no-fuss approach to the Wedding was replicated in my photographs in their pretty yet simplistic settings. I particularly enjoy the portraits taken under the falling blossom of the tree at the quiet sister hotel, Eleven Didsbury Park. I feel I captured the personality of a quiet couple who were very much in love in my pictures. Matt and Angela’s wedding was a lesson in intimacy. A wedding does not have to have a gigantic guest list for it to be beautiful. In fact, a smaller affair is often just what the doctor ordered, and I hope my photographs have done it justice.

San Marco Wedding Photography

Bride and groom kiss with smoke grenade

Natalie and Ste were my first wedding of 2016 and it was certainly a great way to start my season with thier Willows at San Marco wedding

I have known Natalie since high school. We drifted out of touch around 2003 when I started college but seemed to bump into each other every now and then. About 12 months before Natalie and Ste were to get married, I got a message out of the blue from Natalie asking about photography for their wedding. When we met up it was great to catch up and talk about old times but it was also great to meet her two little boys and her (at the time) Husband to be.

When Natalie and Ste decided they wanted me to photograph the wedding I couldn’t have been happier. I love weddings but to be involved with capturing the wedding of an old friend is something a little more special. Not only did it mean I could catch up with Natalie a bit more but on the day it also meant I got to catch up with some old school friends, all whilst working of course!

The day started off nice and relaxed at Natalie’s sister, Beth’s house. Arriving just in time to see McDonalds breakfast being delivered and Natalie being too nervous to eat anything. As the morning went on Alfie, Natalie’s little boy began to get excited for Mum and Dads big day and I think this wore off on Natalie. It was either that or the prosecco, because as the morning went on I could see Natalie relax and start to get giddy.

The service took place at the beautiful St Marys church in Horwich and then we moved on to The Willows at San Marco in Blackrod where the party pretty much started as we arrived courtesy of the amazing Alex Birtwell and Fantasticastle. The Bouncy castle went down a storm and not just with the kids. After the speeches Alex kept the party vibe alive and the dance floor full with some amazing tunes and even starting a dance off between the bride and groom.

It was such a great day and a great way to start my wedding season. Congratulations again to Mr and Mrs McHugh!
