King Street Townhouse Wedding // Lu and Chris

King Street Townhouse Wedding // Lu and Chris

married couple stand on the roof of king street townhouseWhen I first met up with Lu and Chris and they told me their story I totally fell in love with these guys as a couple. They told me about the cool ideas for the wedding, the Game of Thrones theme and then the venue! It has long been on my list to photograph an awesome King Street Townhouse Wedding and then up pop Lu and Chris.

Tattoos and Total Geek Outs

So Lu and Chris won’t mind me telling you that they are self confessed geeks but I love that. When we met we chatted all about Star Wars, Tattoos, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and most importantly, the show that forged the relationship between this stunning couple, Game Of Thrones! After meeting at a friends house party back in 2008 neither of the pair thought anything of it but 5 years later meeting again via facebook and chatting over a mutual love of Game Of Thrones is what kickstarted the relationship so it would have been rude not to have this theme running through the wedding which can be seen from details down to table names and bottles of “wildfire” as favours.

When it came to tattoos Lu was very much all about having these on display on the wedding day and you can see how incredibly stunning she looked in her dress. Chris however was in the process of having laser removal for a tattoo on his hand which I was told was a Vegas Special. From what I am told Lu and Chris and a few friends all got matching tattoos out in Vegas and even under the advice of his wife to be to not tattoo his hand he went for it!

Portraits and Party Time for a King Street Townhouse Wedding

From arriving in the morning and spending time with Lu and her girls I knew that the cold January wouldn’t be an issue for getting these guys outside for some cool (in every sense of the word) portraits. We managed to get out on the roof which gives perfect views across Manchester City Centre, one of the main reasons to have a King Street Townhouse Wedding. Later in the evening before the party really started we managed to head out into the city for more shots and the cold didn’t stop these two.

The evening party was brought in by good friend and awesome DJ Tom Hardwick. With Lu and Chris being self confessed metal heads (even Chris’ mum was asking for slayer) Tom was the clear choice. Not only does he know his stuff when it comes to keeping a dance floor packed when you ask him to spin headbanging metal tunes it will be one hell of a party, and from what I hear later in the night Lu slipped on her dress and while trying to save her prosecco managed to cut her hand creating what she affectionately calls her wedding battle scar. Total Rock and Roll wedding story right there!

Battle scars aside Lu and Chris were the perfect couple to work with in the cold January and I am sure they as much fun as I did while shooting this awesome King Street Townhouse Wedding. Congratulations guys and all the best!

Ramsbottom Wedding Photography, A Christmas Wedding // Danny and Lauren

Ramsbottom Wedding Photography

Sometimes taking a wedding booking so close to Christmas is a difficult decision to make but when your friend of over 10 years asks you to be the person to shoot the wedding its a no brainer. Getting to do the Ramsbottom Wedding Photography for a close friend is an honour and one not to be taken lightly.

Christmas Winter Wedding In Ramsbottom

Danny and Lauren chose to get married just 3 days before Christmas. What a way to start the festive period than with gathering family and friends to celebrate with you while you marry your best friend. The celebrations started early in the morning with Lauren and her sisters and bridesmaids at home with bubbles flowing while they did hair and make up. This was followed by a beautiful and personal service at greenmount church culminating in mince pies and mulled wine rather than traditional canapes.

Photobombed By Father Christmas

Ramsbottom is a truly beautiful little town and getting to take advantage of this for portraits was such great fun. After the ceremony we took a short ride down to the train station before heading up to the civic hall  for speeches, wedding breakfast and to party in to the early hours. During the portrait session we were lucky enough to get a surprise visit from the Santa Express and a cheeky wave from the man himself. The civic hall was the setting for the rest of the day with speeches followed by fantastic food. Lauren’s dad started the speeches with a few embarrassing stories however it was Danny’s best man Ste with the full on character assassination that everyone in fits of laughter.

With this being a December wedding the light faded fast into the night which gave me some great time to create some unique and creative portraits which you can see in the gallery below.

Congratulations again to Danny and Lauren and thank you for having me there to capture your special day!

Lancashire Wedding Photography // The Whitaker // Amy and Oona

Same sex couple wedding day in lancashireLancashire Wedding Photography // Amy and Oona

In the middle of May I had the pleasure of conducting the Lancashire wedding photography for Amy and Oona. With Olivia Whittaker alongside as the second shooter we spent our day with the gorgeous pair photographing the intimate Lancashire wedding.

Starting off with the morning prep I spent my time with Oona and her family at The Red Lion in Hawkshaw while Olivia spent her time with Amy at the home she shares with Oona. It was the day of the Royal Wedding so both parties had this on in the background and spent a little time taking interest in the dress and who was arriving ans what they were wearing but then it was time to shift focus to their day.

An Intimate Wedding at The Whitaker

The wedding was to take place at The Whitaker in Rossendale. The Whitaker is an awesome little space and is found in the heart of Rossendale, Lancashire. I can totally see why these two picked this as their venue. For a small intimate wedding The whitaker is a beautiful space, holding limited weddings each year the quirky space is certainly the place for it.

Before the ceremony the two girls wanted a first look before they walked each other down the isle and this set all the emotions flowing. This became a strong part of the day as during the speeches there wasn’t a dry eye in the room as both fathers gave beautiful and heart wrenching speeches and I am not ashamed to admit it caught me off guard and I too had a little cry.

Make sure you check out some of the shots from the day below. We also went into Manchester for a Pre Wedding shoot which you can see HERE.

Pryors Hayes Wedding // Becca and Jonny

Pryors Hayes Wedding // Becca and Jonny

What better way to spend new years eve than getting married! That is exactly what Becca and Jonny thought when they booked me to shoot their Pryors Hayes wedding on New Years Eve 2017. Personally I’m not a fan of going out on New Year, the inflated bar prices, double fare on your taxis so when you get asked to photograph a wedding and come along to an awesome party you just cant turn that down at all!

Arriving at Becca’s parents home in the morning for bridal prep I was given a warm welcome and it was clear Becca and the girls were extremely excited for the day ahead. It was a great pleasure to be able to work alongside Elle Knowles MUA and Ann Hutchinson Hair Stylist for the first time. After getting ready and exchanging gifts it was on to the church where I caught up with Becca’s groom Jonny. Nerves were creeping in a little but with the aid of his best men Jonny was kept calm for the beautiful service.

Rose Gold and Vintage Transport

The colour scheme for the big day was rose gold. This was something Becca was adamant on from day one so it seems. From bridesmaids dresses to the cuff links she bought for her dad to the venue decoration everything had a touch of rose gold to it and the added sparkle gave it that New Years Eve party vibe!

So its new year, you’re getting married and you and all your guests need to get from the church to the reception venue. No one wants to drive, it’s a party. What do you do? Hire two amazing vintage red busses from The Big Red Bus Co which have free flowing prosecco and beer! Keep the party going while on the road and I got invited along to document the journey which was AWESOME as I am a bit of a sucker for retro rides and vintage transport.

Pryors Hayes Wedding

Pryors Hayes is a bespoke wedding venue set in the heart of Cheshire in 120 acres of beautiful scenery. Recently refurbished styling itself with rustic oak beams and Edison bulbs the venue has an instant impact mixing its unique and rustic vibe with a beautiful elegance. Unfortunately due to the weather and the fast fading light we didn’t have chance to explore far but we did check out the private garden and when I return in 2018 I will be making the most of the golf buggies and the surrounding scenery.

Check out below the pictures from Becca and Jonny’s big day. Congratulations guys and thanks for having me along for an unforgettable NYE!

Northern Quarter Pre Wedding Shoot // Amy and Oona

two girls stand in front of a graffiti heart in Manchester

Northern Quarter Pre Wedding Shoot

Female couple laugh holding hands in front of Manchester graffiti There is nothing more I love than a Northern Quarter Pre Wedding shoot. The Northern Quarter has to be one of my favourite places in Manchester. The ever changing graffiti, the cool bars and independent retailers and don’t get me started on the places to grab a bite to eat.

Amy and Oona chose the Northern Quarter as this was where they dated and lived for a while at the start of their relationship. Heading to a few places they spent on dates and heading to a few spots near Oona’s old flat the shoot became a bit of a nostalgia trip which was awesome to hear about where these two dated and spent nights out.

Graffiti, Colour and Cool Backdrops

Dotted all around the Northern Quarter you can find loads of cool backdrops and ever changing graffiti. We nipped to a little alley behind The Fitzgerald that has a pretty awesome mural painted all along one of the walls then on to the love heart on Stevenson Square which holds more significance as it was painted by one of Amy’s favourite artists.

Also tagging along on part of the shoot was Hugo, Amy and Oona’s little sausage dog. He was such a cutie and for a while stole the show! After this shoot I am so excited for their wedding in May at The Whitaker in Rawtenstall.

Please check out some of my favourite images from the shoot below!

Victoria Baths Wedding Photography // Olly and Aimee

Victoria Baths Wedding Photography // Olly and Aimee

Bride and Groom take a seat to cool down at Victoria BathsOlly is an old mate of mine from when I used to play in a band way back when. He is still a musician, while I, on the other hand, chose to pick up a camera instead. I really enjoyed shooting a wedding of a close friend. I think all weddings are special and are always an honour to be involved with, but there is something a little different when it is a friend. It might be the added pressure, but that’s something I thrive on so to be involved in this Victoria Baths Wedding was a real honour.

Victoria Baths Wedding

It took place at the gorgeous Victoria Baths, an Edwardian swimming bath which is in a beautiful state of disrepair. In its day, the Baths were made of the highest quality of materials and it beautiful in its own right. Light floods in from the glass roof and stained glass, and wooden surfaces make the space feel so luxurious. Obviously, the pools are now emptied of water but the space is still equipped with all the parts from shining emerald green tiles, all the piping and curtained changing stalls. It’s certainly a wedding venue with a difference. It had so much quirky charm and so many opportunities for stunning photos. I had Olivia Whittaker helping me out. It was getting dangerously close to my son being born at this point, so I needed someone to take over in case I needed to run off.

On One Of The Hottest Days Of The Year

Both the ceremony and the reception took place inside the empty pools which was a bit of a novelty and so much fun. The décor was colourful, playful and bright which was descriptive of the day in general.

The bride got ready in Deansgate with her bridesmaids and mother. Aimee’s sister Feliciti was the maid of honour, it was so nice to see such a close family network. Aimee’s dress was beautiful; classic white with a vintage 1920’s look to it while Olly was dressed in blue tweed. Although this looked cracking in the pictures, it might have been an unwise choice at the venue. Victoria Baths, with its enormous glass ceiling, made the rooms like a sauna in the baking sunshine of June. Everyone was feeling it though- even me. At one point we had to lie down on the tile floors to cool off.

Fantastic day. Fantastic shoot. Fantastic couple. Lots of love to Aimee and Olly

Didsbury House Wedding Photography // Matt and Angela

Didsbury House Wedding Photography // Matt and Angela

Wedding portraits at Eleven Didsbury ParkNo rest for the wicked. The second job on the trot for me and I was back to my native Manchester for Matt and Angela’s wedding on the Saturday of Easter weekend for a Didsbury House Wedding. This coy couple wanted a small intimate affair with family and close friends, minimal fuss and that was precisely the feeling of the day.

The wedding took place at The Didsbury House Hotel, a luxury Victorian villa situated in a fashionable suburb of South Manchester. Due to its small size, the venue is often taken over by the entire wedding party, which gives a comfortable, informal, family feel to the whole event. The old wedding tradition of ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ is carried throughout the premises. The exterior is traditionally Victorian with a newly refurbished interior that was theirs to borrow for the day. Finally, the reception took place in the spectacular Blue Room- competing this old English proverb so perfectly.

A Small Intimate Wedding

The Bride & Groom stayed the night before the big day at the hotel, which I can only imagine was filled with a restless night of excited sleep.  The big day began with getting ready over a few glasses of Dutch courage, a practice used by both Matt & Angela, and a little pampering. The bride and bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done by local artist Rebecca Anderton while I took some snaps.  The stunning Monsoon wedding dress hung up on the shutters as the morning light peaked through the cracks, while the groom and his men got dressed in another room. Flowers from The Flower Lounge were delivered, and they took everyone’s breath away (including mine!) The palate of colours in the bouquet was stunning and complimented the dark blue tone which adorned the bridesmaids. All the flora seemed wild, rustic and natural as if it had been plucked from the grounds that very morning and tied up in a bow. Sian is an absolute master of her craft and comes highly recommended.

Good things came in small packages at this wedding with only 50 guests at the ceremony and a handful more in the evening. The intimate Blue Room of was filled with the cheerful faces of Matt & Angela’s loved ones. After it was all official, the party moved into the Gold Lounge for the reception which concluded with the music from Jack Rabbits and a little dancing.

Didsbury House Wedding

I enjoyed taking the photographs of the family in the beautiful grounds under the shade of leafy trees.  The stripped –back, no-fuss approach to the Wedding was replicated in my photographs in their pretty yet simplistic settings. I particularly enjoy the portraits taken under the falling blossom of the tree at the quiet sister hotel, Eleven Didsbury Park. I feel I captured the personality of a quiet couple who were very much in love in my pictures. Matt and Angela’s wedding was a lesson in intimacy. A wedding does not have to have a gigantic guest list for it to be beautiful. In fact, a smaller affair is often just what the doctor ordered, and I hope my photographs have done it justice.

Bolton School Wedding Photography // Kayleigh and Emily

Two brides share a moment at Bolton School

Back in October last year I had the absolute pleasure of being a Bolton School Wedding Photographer for Kayleigh and Emily on their intimate wedding surrounded by family and friends. This venue is such a cool space to get married and have your reception so when Kayleigh and Emily asked me I jumped at the chance to photograph their wedding at Bolton School. With parts of the building dating back over 600 years there are some great spots for amazing photos.

On the morning of the wedding I arrived at Kayleigh and Emilys home where they had decided to forego tradition and get ready together and spend their morning together sharing the excitement and anticipation. Not only did they get ready together but they both travelled to the venue together in a stunning retro VW camper van. Now I have a little soft spot for all things retro when it comes to cars so this was just an added extra to add to the excitement!

On the day its self the weather was perfect which is unusual for Bolton as most locals know all to well we don’t get much sunshine but it was almost as if it had been on order for the girls big day.

Make sure you check out their photos below!

Yarrow Valley Engagement Shoot // James and Kaylie

Yarrow Valley Engagement shoot
A couple stand and kiss in the rain

I met up with Kaylie and James on a very wet and rainy Saturday morning for their Yarrow Valley engagement shoot. The plan was to head out for a lovely stroll around Yarrow Valley park and take some lovely pictures and have a good catch up. When we all met up it was clear that the rain was not for halting but neither were Kaylie and James. They weren’t going to let a little rain stop their plans to show me one of their favourite spots.

So without hesitation we set out to create some magic, albeit a little rainy. It wasn’t without its trouble being out in the rain but these guys absolutely embraced the weather on the walk round Yarrow Valley Park. Not only did we embrace the rain the guys even took to the park to try out the swings and even a very wet slide that James almost instantly regretted.

Based on the way James and Kaylie are together and the way they were happy to go with the flow even in the pretty grim conditions I can honestly say these guys are properly loved up and I really can’t wait to shoot the wedding in July!
