The Oak Tree Of Peover Wedding // Rae and Adam

The Oak Tree Of Peover Wedding // Rae and Adam

Bride and Groom share a moment in front of The Oak Tree Of PeoverWhen I first met Adam and Rae I knew instantly that this would be a super cool, laid back and fun Oak Tree Of Peover wedding and it didn’t disappoint. Setting the date for Friday the 13th for most couples would be a complete no go but for Rae and Adam it just added to the unconventional elements of the wedding.

As mentioned, yes, these guys tied the knot on Friday the 13th. So hoping nothing could go wrong the day started with the bride and her bridesmaids arriving on a mini bus to get ready at The Oak Tree Of Peover. Upon arrival all was well up until the bride received a text message showing how one of the mini bus doors had fallen off. Yep IT FELL OFF! This was just the start of things that could potentially cause a problem as Rae informed me her dad was in hospital with broken ribs and a possible collapsed lung and may not make it to the Oak Tree Of Peover wedding!

Friday the 13th and The Suspense

Ceremony time rolls around and Adam nervously awaits his school sweetheart underneath an archway he hand made from copper pipe which was just one part of the details that the couple had made themselves. It wasn’t always that way though as we were all reliably informed during the speeches. Apparently Adam went to prom with another girl but left with Rae so it all worked out in the end.

Back to Adam waiting patiently and still unsure if Rae’s dad would be making it to the wedding and with 3 minutes to the ceremony he strolls in to the bridal prep room to give his daughter the biggest hug and to wish her luck before he takes his seat. Thats right he took his seat as another part of this non traditional day was that Adam was to meet his bride at the top of the isle and they would walk each other down to be married which I thought was such a beautiful touch.

Thunder Storms and Sunny Spells

The forecast had been threatening The Oak Tree of Peover wedding all day with rain and after the week we had with incredible weather it seemed nothing could put a dampener on the day. With glorious sunshine throughout the ceremony and drinks reception giving us plenty of time to explore the beautiful surroundings that The Oak Tree Of Peover has. The weather didn’t last but if there was a perfect time for rain it hit during the meal then cleared out for the speeches and the reception meaning everyone could enjoy the grounds again.

With the cake cutting and first dance appearing out of nowhere Chicks with Decks brought The Oakree of Peover Wedding fully into the party spirit keeping the dancefloor occupied well into the night.

Preston Pre Wedding Shoot // Freya and Ben

Preston Pre Wedding Shoot // Freya and Ben

Engaged couple laugh and joke with each other during pre wedding shootRecently I headed out for a Preston Pre wedding shoot with Freya and Ben ahead of their Bartle Hall wedding. We met up at Freya’s parents house and headed out to the local park where we wandered, took photos and Freya and Ben told me all the stories of how they met and what brought them together.

Preston Pre Wedding Shoot

As we walked and talked we inevitably talked about plans for the wedding and honeymoon. With a church service followed by the reception at Bartle Hall it is set to be an incredible day and party. Names such as Red Floral Architecture and Six15 Events were dropped into conversation which got me even more excited for this amazing couples wedding.

School Yard Sweethearts

Being such a young couple but clearly totally besotted with each other Ben told me about how him and Freya met at school where he tried everything he could to impress Freya and eventually it worked. Having been together since school and barely leaving each others side with Freya’s parents inviting Ben to move in with them when he and Freya set up their greengrocers business the next step was Ben popping the question.

Check out the images from the Preston Pre wedding shoot below and keep an eye on the blog for the wedding later in the year!

Lancashire Wedding Photography // The Whitaker // Amy and Oona

Same sex couple wedding day in lancashireLancashire Wedding Photography // Amy and Oona

In the middle of May I had the pleasure of conducting the Lancashire wedding photography for Amy and Oona. With Olivia Whittaker alongside as the second shooter we spent our day with the gorgeous pair photographing the intimate Lancashire wedding.

Starting off with the morning prep I spent my time with Oona and her family at The Red Lion in Hawkshaw while Olivia spent her time with Amy at the home she shares with Oona. It was the day of the Royal Wedding so both parties had this on in the background and spent a little time taking interest in the dress and who was arriving ans what they were wearing but then it was time to shift focus to their day.

An Intimate Wedding at The Whitaker

The wedding was to take place at The Whitaker in Rossendale. The Whitaker is an awesome little space and is found in the heart of Rossendale, Lancashire. I can totally see why these two picked this as their venue. For a small intimate wedding The whitaker is a beautiful space, holding limited weddings each year the quirky space is certainly the place for it.

Before the ceremony the two girls wanted a first look before they walked each other down the isle and this set all the emotions flowing. This became a strong part of the day as during the speeches there wasn’t a dry eye in the room as both fathers gave beautiful and heart wrenching speeches and I am not ashamed to admit it caught me off guard and I too had a little cry.

Make sure you check out some of the shots from the day below. We also went into Manchester for a Pre Wedding shoot which you can see HERE.

Samlesbury Hall Wedding Photography // Kaylie and James

Samlesbury Hall Wedding // James and Kaylie

Newly married couple stand for portraits outside the front of Samlesbury HallNo words can describe this Samlesbury Hall Wedding better than utterly raucous. The entire day felt like I was shooting my best friend’s wedding, and I mean that completely truthfully. James and Kaylie were so much fun and were totally relaxed the entire day- a total dream to work with!

Samlesbury Hall Wedding in Lancashire

The day started really early- I’m told that the bride was up and ready to go close to 6am! I thought it was really cute that the animals joined in the party while the Bride was getting ready. They got ready at the family home while the boys got ready round the corner at one of James’ friends. I assure you there were a few tears from Kaylie and her Dad as they got ready to leave. It was really very sweet. A classic Bentley was the car of choice to take them to the venue, a really nice touch- it felt very traditional. Kaylie’s dress was amazing too with a beautifully long train. The bridesmaids were dressed in dark blue gowns, which complimented the purple colour theme perfectly and the flowers by Flowers in Thyme.

I thought the venue was incredible. Samlesbury Hall is a historic house, now hotel, in Lancashire not far from Preston. It is teeming with history- originally built in 1325 and grade II listed. It is typically Tudor with characteristic a black and white patterned exterior. I must say, the colourful wedding party looked fantastic against this back drop. Oh, and apparently it is haunted which is always fun, until you have to wander around alone looking for places for cool portraits. The weather started off great, but as the day went on it just got worse and worse and eventually started raining pretty badly but this didn’t phase Kaylie and James who were more than happy to head outside for some portraits.

Confetti And Giggles

The wedding party was pretty small with about 75 guests. I love shooting big weddings of course, but smaller ones give me an opportunity to get to know characters and take some wonderful pictures which reflect personalities. The ceremony was beautiful and was full of laughs and smiles and Kaylie and James were like uncontrollable school children with the giggles. The speeches later in the afternoon were fantastic too, and there were lots of tears from the Bride again but in the best way.

A wedding with confetti is a photographer’s dream- and I had such fun taking snaps of the newly married couple walking through a sea of purple confetti. These are some of my favourite pictures from the day, but I think the best ones have to be the ones of the couple next the red gypsy caravan outside. There is just something about the plain red background which really just let’s them and their happiness shine through. The entire day was colourful, laid back and fun from start to finish, and I can’t help but think that this is indicative of the couple themselves.

To Kaylie and James, thank you for having me and I wish you all the best in your colourful future which I hope is full of happy-tears just like your special day.

Best of 2017 round up images

75 of my favourite images from an awesome 2017

2017 was a pretty awesome year and was incredibly busy. Not only in the wedding world but in my home life too. It saw me visit new venues and meet new suppliers and work with new and amazing photographers as well as having some of these guys come and shoot with me. It also saw the expansion of the team in the new arrival of my son Reuben. He was due the day of one of my weddings and in my busiest month however he arrived over the one weekend of no weddings, Cheers Son!

Wedding Industry Awards

In October this year I achieved a great success of making it through to the regional finals of The Wedding Industry Awards. Unfortunately I didn’t win the regional finals but to be recognised amongst some of the North Wests best wedding photographers was an incredible achievement.

Best Wedding Photography 2017

2017 saw me shoot some great weddings in manor houses, barns, Victorian swimming pools, marquees, gardens and houses, in the rain, in the cold and even in the rare British summer sun!

Anyway that’s me done waffling on so check out the slideshow which features loads of images from 2017 then my favourite 75 below!

Bolton School Wedding Photography // Kayleigh and Emily

Bolton School Wedding Photography // Kayleigh and Emily

Two brides share a moment at Bolton School

Back in October last year I had the absolute pleasure of being a Bolton School Wedding Photographer for Kayleigh and Emily on their intimate wedding surrounded by family and friends. This venue is such a cool space to get married and have your reception so when Kayleigh and Emily asked me I jumped at the chance to photograph their wedding at Bolton School. With parts of the building dating back over 600 years there are some great spots for amazing photos.

On the morning of the wedding I arrived at Kayleigh and Emilys home where they had decided to forego tradition and get ready together and spend their morning together sharing the excitement and anticipation. Not only did they get ready together but they both travelled to the venue together in a stunning retro VW camper van. Now I have a little soft spot for all things retro when it comes to cars so this was just an added extra to add to the excitement!

On the day its self the weather was perfect which is unusual for Bolton as most locals know all to well we don’t get much sunshine but it was almost as if it had been on order for the girls big day.

Make sure you check out their photos below!

Yarrow Valley Engagement Shoot // James and Kaylie

Yarrow Valley Engagement shoot
A couple stand and kiss in the rain

I met up with Kaylie and James on a very wet and rainy Saturday morning for their Yarrow Valley engagement shoot. The plan was to head out for a lovely stroll around Yarrow Valley park and take some lovely pictures and have a good catch up. When we all met up it was clear that the rain was not for halting but neither were Kaylie and James. They weren’t going to let a little rain stop their plans to show me one of their favourite spots.

So without hesitation we set out to create some magic, albeit a little rainy. It wasn’t without its trouble being out in the rain but these guys absolutely embraced the weather on the walk round Yarrow Valley Park. Not only did we embrace the rain the guys even took to the park to try out the swings and even a very wet slide that James almost instantly regretted.

Based on the way James and Kaylie are together and the way they were happy to go with the flow even in the pretty grim conditions I can honestly say these guys are properly loved up and I really can’t wait to shoot the wedding in July!

Engagement shoot // Andy and Rach // Stoke

I recently met up with Andy and Rach for a catch up, good walk and good food all whilst shooting some cool engagement photos for an awesome couple.

I have known Andy for a few years, maybe 5 or more but it’s a bit hazy as most of our time hanging out involves heavy drinking and partying. I met Andy from the days where we were both in bands and aiming to be the next best world dominating rock band. Safe to say neither of us “made it” but we had fun trying!

We first met when the band I was in supported Andy’s band, Screwloose, on the Manchester leg of thier tour back in April 2009. Since then we have met up lots and become really good friends and I was so happy when I got the news that he had asked Rach to be his wife as the past 12 months for Andy and Rach haven’t been the easiest.

So just over 12 months ago, I found out from a mutual friend that Andy and Rach had been involved in a pretty horrific car accident. An almost head on collision had landed them both in hospital with horrible injuries that I will not go into but it wasn’t pleasant and didn’t look great. Andy was out in a week with multiple broken bones but Rach would be in and out of hospital for months after the accident. Like I said I’m not going into it in detail but months went by and Andy and Rach recovered amazingly (as you can see below) and then Andy mentioned they had planned a trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights and to celebrate their recovery.

Now when I heard about this once in a lifetime holiday I turned to my wife Laura and said “Andy is going to pop the question”. Being in the wedding industry, I like to think my senses to this sort of thing have been heightened! I wasn’t wrong either, seeing pictures of them under the Northern Lights and with Rach’s new ring. I honestly couldn’t have been happier for them. After all the crap they had been dealt over the last 12 months, they really deserved the happiness.

On hearing the news when they returned we knew we were overdue a catch up which gave us the perfect opportunity to head out and get some gorgeous photos and I hope you agree they do look gorgeous and the plastic surgeon did an amazing job on Andy’s face*

*this is a joke Andy has always looked that way!
